We've FOUND a Winner!

We may not both be Hufflepuffs, but we did have it in us to FIND someone we're tentatively calling the biggest HP fan we've met to date (aside from ourselves)! With a whopping 48 correct questions, Anna Cate is the winner in our Unofficial LeakyCon Contest and will collect her prize at the conference!

Please email us at endofanerablog at yahoo dot com to claim your prize (note that we won't set up an actual time until we have the schedule in hand to do so in order to find a time that works best for both/all three of us so we don't miss anything we *need* to see).

So, Who Is Kat?

We've focused mainly on ourselves in the fandom previously in this blog, but we thought it might also be interesting to give a bit more information on who we are exactly. Though the information we've provided about ourselves and HP is pretty revealing about our personalities, this might also be of interest to some of our readers looking for friends at the con.

1. Where are you from?
Originally my family is from Cajun country in Louisiana, and I'm pretty darn proud of that so I usually answer that I'm from Louisiana. However, I've never lived in the state of Louisiana. My dad was transferred to Texas right before I was born, so I'm a native Texan (which I'm not so proud of). Then we were transferred to the Greater Cincinnati area when I was five, so I've lived here long enough to say that I'm from here, I guess.

2. Have you ever traveled outside your country? If so, where?
Yep. My first experience of the international variety was to Nova Scotia during spring break of my senior year in high school with a local school for the blind. It was pretty darn awesome to track my family history through there and meet all the awesome Cajun-like people!

Then I got into an honors program in college that involved study abroad every year. My freshman year was a trip to Ireland (Dublin, Cork, and Galway among a few other stops), and the second year was supposed to be a service trip to Mexico but I ended up having last-minute surgery that spring break and missed the trip. The third year we got to choose where we wanted to go and I went to Italy (Rome, Pompeii, Capri, and Sorrento), Greece (Athens, Delphi, and a cruise around some of the islands like Patmos, Santorini, Mykonos, etc.), and Turkey (mainly just Ephesus). I ended up dropping the major tied to that honors program (education) so I was no longer eligible for the study abroad discount they offered (which was a pretty sweet deal; I only paid $600 to go to Ireland for two weeks) and had to cancel my semester in London for my senior year. So, those are the only times I've been out of the country.

3. What do you want to be when you “grow up”?
I'm not sure what I want my job-job to be. You know, my real life grown up job that pays money, has benefits, and all that. But I know what I want to do with my life, and I have known for several years now. I want more than anything else to become a clergy person in my religion, and I'm just beginning my study at seminary to accomplish this. (We don't pay clergy in my religion, so I will need a day job.)

4. What geeky things are you into (besides HP)?
Hm...I'm a Gleek. That's the first one that pops into mind. I love me some Glee (though no one can hold a candle to Brae's obsession)! I love Buffy the Vampire Slayer quite a bit as well as Charmed. Those are pretty geeky. I also love The Big Bang Theory; it's hard to out-geek that one! Other than that, there's not a whole lot. I'm not a gamer (unless The Sims counts), Trekkie, or anything like that. I just read a lot.

5. What is your favorite food?
This question always makes me feel like I eat too much (especially too much of the junk food variety) because I love sweets like ice cream, cookies, brownies, cakes, cheese cake, etc. But beyond all that, I love Cajun food, especially crawfish. The entirety of my trips home is planned around food. I literally have a checklist of food I must eat including shrimp po-boys, crab burgers, boiled crawfish or crab depending on the season, stuffed crab, crawfish pie, gumbo, a meat po-boy at this little place near my mom's house, and the best bread pudding ever from a Scottish pub also near her house.

6. What is your favorite book (aside from HP)?
I'll have to choose a series for this one because they're all so tied together that it's difficult to pull them apart and decide which is my favorite. It's The Old Kingdom Series by Garth Nix (Sabriel, Lirael, Abhorsen, and the not-yet-released Clariel). His books are always amazing (though I haven't read many of them), but this world is so rich and amazing that it's hard not to love (unless you cannot stand books that don't answer all the major questions and leave you to come up with theories on your own). I've always loved those, so it doesn't bother me so much to sit around for hours contemplating the mysteries of Charter Magic and Free Magic, The Shining Ones, and so on. Theorizing was one of the things I loved most about the time between HP releases, and I still love HP theories about the veil and other unsolved mysteries, so it's no surprise that these books appealed to me so much.

I also love The Lovely Bones (despite that feeling of wanting to kill yourself when you read it), Memoirs of a Geisha, and a few other works of fiction. I spend the majority of my time reading religious nonfiction and mythology, though, from which I won't even list my favorites because I do it so much on my personal youtube channel and most people won't know what books or authors I'm talking about if they aren't Pagan. Other than that, I pretty much read fantasy and historical fiction.

7. What was your favorite childhood TV show?
When I was really young, I loved me some Muppet Babies! I also loved Gullah, Gullah Island, Franklin, The World of David the Gnome, Captain Planet, Inspector Gadget, and a program I cannot remember the name of about a girl who had two koalas living outside her window (I think one was pink and carried a purse).

I kind of grew up on classic (and good) Nick and Disney Channel, so I loved Aaaah! Real Monsters, Salute Your Shorts, The Famous Jett Jackson, Even Stevens, Clarissa Explains It All, Space Cases, Lizzie McGuire, Flash Forward, Rocket Power, The Wild Thornberrys, Avatar: the Last Airbender, As Told By Ginger, Rugrats, American Dragon: Jake Long, Kim Possible, Legends of the Hidden Temple, Hey Arnold!, Doug, Taina, Are You Afraid of the Dark?, The Mystery Files of Shelby Woo, Double Dare, Figure it Out, All That, That's So Raven, Phil of the Future, In a Heartbeat (I think I died when this show was cancelled), So Weird, Bug Juice, Totally Circus, etc. But I did love me some TGIF like Boy Meets World, Sister, Sister, Smart Guy, Growing Pains, Sabrina the Teenage Witch, etc.

Wow, I watched a lot of TV growing up! And that doesn't even include all the Disney Channel Original Movies and the stuff I started watching mainly in high school/early college like American Dreams, Boston Public, Bones, House, etc.

8. What do you spend your time doing (for the most part that doesn't relate to HP)?
Reading about, studying, teaching, and practicing religion.

9. Do you collect anything? If so, what?
Not really, but I do buy a keychain from every place I go. I guess that qualifies it as a collection, but I'm never all “OMG! You have to see my keychain collection!” or anything. I also try to find a ritual tool from every major trip/life landmark I experience. I'm actually planning on buying a cauldron I fell in love with at the WWoHP last year for ritual use because of the major impact Harry Potter has had on my life.

10. What do you dislike about yourself?
My tendency to procrastinate. It drives me insane. The sad thing was that in school it wasn't a big deal because I work best under pressure and, with deadlines looming, that was certainly the case a lot of the time. However, now that I've graduated, I don't have deadlines per se for a lot of my projects...so they hardly ever get finished.

11. What traits do you dislike in others?
Disloyalty and lying (especially when it involves attention-seeking behavior). Just be you, stand up for what you believe in, and forget everyone else. It doesn't matter what they think of you, it doesn't matter if they pay attention to you, and so on. Get over it, and live your life!

12. Name one thing you miss about being a kid.
Um...being able to be lazy. That sounds dumb, but every time I have a lazy day now, I think of the 10 million things I should be doing. When you had a lazy day as a kid, none of that bothered you because you didn't have obligations, no matter how busy and put-upon you felt by your teachers and parents.

13. Name one thing you love about being an adult.
Freedom. Sure there's a downside to making your own decisions and being able to do what you want, but I wouldn't sacrifice that just to go back to the carefree atmosphere of childhood.

14. List a few random facts about yourself.
A. I love Reese's and Smartees beyond any other type of candy.
B. I'm an actor/singer/dancer, and my favorite role of all time was Cassandra from
Agamemnon, but my favorite play to be in overall was The Complete Works of William Shakespeare (Abridged).
C. I have several “secret” and highly illogical crushes both inside and outside the fandom including Ellen DeGeneres, Christie Carlson Romano, Margo Harshman, Lalaine, Mairead Nesbitt, and a few wizard rockers that I won't list for fear that they'll somehow stumble across this blog and read their names here to my great embarrassment. (In case you didn't pick up on it yet, I'm a lesbian.)

D. I have a recurring nightmare that started when I was in early high school and continues to this day in which I'm killed in a manner similar to that described in The Cask of Amontillado by none other than Edgar Allan Poe himself.
E. I'm somewhat OCD about being on time and organizational matters.
F. I absolutely cannot drink tequila. Yes, there is a story. No, I wouldn't like to share. Yes, it is embarrassing. No, you really cannot hear it.
G. I would love one day to adopt one (ideally two) baby girls from Asia who have albinism. I have albinism myself and would love the chance to help other children with this condition through the difficulties that come with it socially. Why Asia? Well, while there are major problems for people with albinism (note the use of person-first language, I cannot stand being called an “albino”) in Africa, like witch doctors dismembering people with albinism to collect their body parts for use in prosperity spells, there are also problems in Asia where babies (especially girls) are euthanized at birth if they have albinism. Because of this, adoption fees are waved for these special needs children. (For those that are not familiar with albinism, it is a recessive genetic condition that causes a lack of pigment, or color, and visual impairment. In my case, I lack pigment in my hair, skin, and eyes.)
H. I currently work as a nanny part-time.
I. I am trained in aromatherapy and hope to one day become certified.
J. Repetitive noises drive me absolutely insane and I will snap after a few minutes. We're talking about tapping/clicking pens, shaking legs, etc.

Packing with 39 days to go?

Ok, so we haven't started packing YET, but I have "finished" (I put it in quotes because I keep running back to add items I'd forgotten) our list of items we'll need. Because I've been asked by a few people heading off to their first cons to post a sample list of items to pack, here you go...

But first, don't forget that there's just one more week to enter our LeakyCon contest! You don't need to answer all the questions to be eligible to win either. We've only gotten a few entries because of confusion about that, I think. So, there's still an excellent chance that you'll win if you only send in a few answers/guesses.

Also, please don't forget to check out my new collab LeakyCon channel on Youtube, AccioLeakyCon! There's some serious awesomeness going on over there.

Now, on to the list!

CLOTHING AND ACCESSORIES

T-shirt (worn on plane)

2-3 Pairs jeans (1 worn on plane)

3-4 Pairs socks (1 worn on plane)

Tennis shoes (worn on plane)

Purse (brought on plane)

At least 4 undergarments (1 worn on plane)

6 Pairs underwear (1 worn on plane)

Sun hat (Easily reached in suitcase/carry-on since we're going to the park right after checking in and will probably need to check our luggage at the hotel, we won't want to rifle through all our bags to find our hats, sunscreen, fan, etc.)

Costume #1 (I will be devoting an entire post and video to putting together my costumes, how they look, the pricing, the process, etc. So, look for that at the end of June when we get all the pieces back from the tailor.)

3 pairs spanks (As I said in another post, if you're planning on wearing a uniform skirt to the park and want to ride FJ, you'll need/want spanks.)

2 HP-themed t-shirts

Costume #2

Pygmy puffs

Costume #3

Costume #4

Dark Marks

Pens (To take notes in panels and talks as well as for autographs)

Small notebook

Sharpie (For all those autograph moments)

Knee/back braces or ace bandage, if necessary

We are staying an extra day, so keep that in mind. Also, think about how much you'll NOT want to wear anything you wear to the park again while at the con, unless you want to pay to have it dry cleaned at the hotel or something.

I'd recommend laying out costumes/outfits before packing them to make sure you have absolutely everything that goes with them (including undergarments, styling products, make-up, jewelry, accessories, props, etc.) as well as going through these ensembles laid out and figuring out if you have everything you'll need day-by-day. But I'm also obsessive about things like this.

Yes, our list is really freakin' long, and we realize that (it's actually a lot longer than what you see above since I list every costume item on it so we don't forget something important). We are going to *try* to cram it all into 2 carry-ons and 2 hanging bags, but it might not happen (since we have a different pair of shoes with each costume and hats to boot), which will mean we'll be paying about $125-$175 in baggage fees. : (

I hope this helped a few of you figure out the basics that you'll need to bring with you. And don't worry about forgetting the small stuff. There should be places to buy toiletries and such nearby (in the hotel, at the airport, etc.)

The Rest of the RP Crew

In a previous post I discussed some of my RP characters and a fanfiction piece I wrote on the history on Pureblood Club (which is still in progress). Now I thought it would be interesting to explore a few of my other RP characters.
Cygnus Fawcett was my first RP character. I created her to be very similar to myself in many ways, but she grew to be something entirely different after her experiences in Pureblood Club.

Cygnus was born on November 2 to Colleen and Aaron Fawcett. She was named after her grandmother, on her mother's side (A famous Seer), who died shortly before her birth and her mother's best friend from Hogwarts. She takes after her mother mainly being strong-willed and a bit of a know-it-all. She works hard for what she wants and will not be persuaded against something she is set on getting. She is also konwn to have a bit of her father in her which helps to get her into trouble by speaking her mind without considering the consequences.
She was sorted into Gryffindor, a pleasant surprise because she expected to be placed in Ravenclaw.

Cygnus is deeply in love with Tavis Burke, but she often lies about it because she knows he won't ever get back together with her because she's left PC, she thinks she can change him and won't consider dating him until she has successfully done so, and she doesn't want him to know yet. She's trying to crush PC because she thinks without Pureblood Club, Tavis will lose hope and come running back to her. Yes, she's a bit delluded.

After much introspection, and a meeting with Tom Campbell (another former member of PC), she decided on a course of action. She spent a year trying to put herself back together (with a few relapses into mild insanity with brewing love potions and such) so that she can successfully carry out her mission. Since hearing that Tavis has returned to Hogwarts, and not hearing of Vada (his old girlfriend), she decided the timing is perfect for her to act.She "dated" Amina (sort of) in hopes of using that fact to lure Tavis into a false sense of security around her. Then, she joined the Patronus Club 1) for protection since Tom Campbell was murdered by the Pureblood Club for his desertion and 2) to have information to offer Tavis to make her of value to Pureblood Cluband be allowed back in to bring it crashing down from inside. Crazy much?

~ Post time jump ~
After graduating Hogwarts, Cygnus hasn't done much with her life. She moved back home to Ireland with her parents where she spends most of her time in isolation. No one has gotten an answer as to why when they've asked.Right before graduation, Cygnus discovered the death of Columba, her cousin, at the hands of the PC. She'd been under the impression that Tavis's feelings for her and for Columba (something Cygnus had acknowledged deep down but not wanted to face) would protect her. She was wrong. This threw all her former aspirations and ideas about the PC into turmoil. How could she have thought that she could single-handedly overturn this organization? How could she go head-to-head with Tavis and expect to come out victorious, or even alive?

After a pe
riod of mourning, she spent much time in introspection. Was what she was doing worthwhile? She had been a real member at one point. Did that part of her exist deep down still? Would she spend the rest of her life flip-flopping back and forth? She emerged from this introspection a completely changed person and tracked down the one person she knew she could still talk to, however dangerous it might be--Tavis Burke.

If you know
Tavis at all and if you know his relationship with Cygnus, you can be sure that you know exactly what happened in their little meeting. No, not that. He accepted her back into the group, when it reforms. But it wasn't actually because of his feelings for her. He noted an extreme change in Cygnus. She wasn't the Cygnus he knew anymore. She was more like she used to be before she left the group. He coudln't pinpoint the exact cause of the change, but it didn't matter much to him.

Now for some Out of Character facts on albinism that might help you understand her/RP with her.
-do not call her an albino. She will take great offense and use the curses she learned in PC on you. Even if she doesn't hear you, I'll read it and send you an owl, probably.
-she's visually impaired as a result of having albinism
-she's ext
remely light sensative, but she will go out in the sun *smacks head*
-her eyes are not red. I repeat, her eyes are NOT RED. They are blue, sometimes with a violet tinge.
-she has no special powers relating to having albinism
-her parents d
o not have albinism
-if you have any other questions, PM me.
-if you say I got something relating to albini
sm wrong, I will yell. I have albinism myself. I think that gives me t
he authority on the subject.
-I'm not trying to be mean. I've encountered too many arrogant know-it-all people on this site for my liking.

Rhoswen was my first character from WADA, and I love her for that, but I haven't ever RPed her much. She was modeled after one my ex-girlfriends, though, and I thought she'd be lot of fun because of that.

Rhoswen Astleywas born on July 11 while her parents were on tour with a theatre troupe in Paris. Her mother was playing the role of Queen Gertrude in
Hamlet and had to hide that she was pregnant throughout production for fear she wouldn't be allowed to perform. During one of the performances, she went into labor. After delivering Rhos during intermission, she went back to finish the show. That dedication to their craft was instilled in Rhos during the course of her childhood.

She grew up backstage of many productions, learning to love the classics and the art as a whole. Her parents played a little role in her life, but she felt she had several parents as the other actors of the troupe stepped in to make sure she was never left out or bored.

Her first role was Puck in A Midsummer Night's Dream at age ten. She then truly understood why her parents loved the theatre. She's been hooked ever since.

She knew her parents were a witch and wizard, but it was never really discussed or used due to the close proximity of the other troupe members. So when, at age eleven, she got her acceptance letter from W.A.D.A. (Wizarding Academy of the Dramatic Arts), she decided to take her place at the school and learn all she could about her craft and witchcraft. Leaving her parents wasn't particularly difficult, but leaving the troupe as a whole was somewhat heart-wrenching.

However, WADA was more than she could have expected! She loved everything about it, the people, the classes, the magic, the productions. That's why when one of her professors told her she should consider transferring to Hogwarts last year she cried. They insisted that her acting had reached a level that she didn't need them, but her magic was lacking. She needed more instruction than they could provide.

Being a true Ravenclaw spirit, she always read as much as possible and excelled in subjects that didn't require practical instruction; magic had been particularly difficult for her, but she loved it. It was a challenge that she wanted to rise to. So, Hogwarts, here she comes!

She's been in and out of relationships for as long as she can remember. Boys started taking an interest in her from a young age (her first beau was at four), and it just continued. She's attracted a large variety of people for all her life, and she loves it. In fact, she's developed a sort ofdependence on relationships. She loves the attention she gets from the person she's dating, dishing on her crushes and dates, and everything about it. It's part of what brings her to the spotlight.

A few years ago, at age eleven, she discovered that she was a lesbian. She's dated boys since then, but not seriously. All her relationships are light and fun, and no one should take them
too seriously, but they often do. She's broken her fair share of hearts in this crazy game she plays, but she won't give it up for anything.
She's currently single because of her transfer to Hogwarts, having left behind her most current girlfriend (Meegan), and she's sort of freaking out about it.

By far, my most popular (by RPers, not characters) is Mehren Blair, and I have to admit that she's quite fun to RP just because she's pretty much the exact opposite of myself.

Mehren was a founding member of Pureblood Club. It was, actually, originally her idea in her third year. Her close friends helped her create it.

At an early age, a prominent pureblood matchmaker promised Mehren's hand to Dimitro Dolohov (Antonin Dolohov's son who is ten years Mehren's senior). Though she appears to resist this match by partaking in several "relationships" (read: one night stands), she knows she will succumb to marriage upon her graduation from Hogwarts to this upstanding pureblood and fellow Death Eater. All that being said, it might be of importance to note that she is bisexual.

We've found out that her sister (her hidden and extremely secret sister named Moira) was bitten by a werewolf at an early age and Mehren was forced to watch her be locked away in the cellar for years. Right before she went to Hogwarts, her parents ordered fellow Death Eaters to murder their second (and last) child. Mehren was forced to watch to see yet another piece of filth be purged. Gruesome? Yes, it was. She's been scarred ever since, but that explains her ability to stand up for werewolves. Here's that post:

"My sister and I were very close." Yes, Mehren had a sister. Or...used to. "Not many people knew she even existed. Most thought she got sick when she was about six and died four years later. It was a lie. She was a year younger than I was, and we did everything together. Except one night. She fancied a walk under the moon. She said it was a beautiful night. I was tired, and just getting over a bit of sickness, so I refused to go with her. If I had...it might have been I that got the bite."

She drew a great, unsteady breath before continuing. She hadn't told this story to anyone before. Tavis just...knew.
"My parents hid her away in the cellar, held a funeral, and everything. I always went to visit her whenever I could hide it from my parents. Eventually, they couldn't take the strain of hiding it from all their Death Eater friends. They-they told them what was going on. Her death was ordered, and I was forced to watch. They said it would do me good to see a family purged of filth. I was eleven at the time, ready to go to Hogwarts the next day."
The entire story was told without the slightest hint of emotion. If she risked showing a bit, she'd utterly break down. She knew it.

She became a Death Eater in the middle of her sixth year and does all she can to serve the Dark Lord from within the confines of Hogwarts.

Last year, Lucius sent Mehren on a task, telling her he required assistance to protect his family tree from being infiltrated with filth. Giving her no other information, she was sent on her way with every intention of completing her task. When she found her mark, however, she was greatly disturbed to find out that he was a werewolf in love with a pureblood witch distantly related to the Malfoys. Given her history with her sister, she couldn't go through with it and immediately went into hiding to avoid Lucius who she knew would be furious. Dimitro, after being fed a story about how she failed to find her mark and execute Lucius' task, provided her with a hiding place with his friends the Silverpaws where she stayed for a month while Dimitro fed Lucius the story he took for true and allowed him to calm down. During this time, she grew quite close to Braeden Silverpaw, as did Tavis Burke (or as close as Tavis can get to people) during his brief stay to visit Mehren.

Not much else is known about her because she rarely confides in anyone. All she is ever really known
for is her appearance or her rather Bellatrix-like nature which is the reasoning behind her nickname "Bella" which a few PC members use to refer to her.

Sophie is another one of my soft spots in RP. She'd modeled greatly after Abby on NCIS, hence my choice to use that actress as her playby. I loved RPing her, especially during her days in Pureblood Club and during her nauseatingly cute romance with a boy like herself in PC.

Sophie was born to Ambrosius Flume and Helena Smith (Hepzibah Smith's daughter) on October 30, one day shy from what would be her favorite holiday, in Hogsmeade. She's lived there ever since, and it seemed only natural for her to attend Hogwarts when she came of age. She's quite popular in the Ravenclaw house for her connection with her father (an affiliate of Honeydukes Sweetshop).

She's very unique in personality to match her appearance. She's quite blunt and tends to not have a brain-mouth filter; she'll tell you things exactly how they are. She'll ask questions that most people wouldn't dare to as well. Sophie would tell you that if you don't ask, you'll never learn. She's a true Ravenclaw through and through in that respect. Although she might seem innocent and easily swayed, you'll soon find that appearances are quite deceiving. She'll want all the facts before jumping into something, and she isn't going to be converted to another's way of thinking easily.

Her life growing up was quite normal, and she's been somewhat sheltered from what happened previously with Voldemort and what clearly happened again. Her parents were under the assumption that if they kept their heads down, they wouldn't get in trouble.

Being a Ravenclaw, however, Sophie has a thirst for knowledge and wants to know exactly what is going on so that she can protect her family in the best way she can. She wasn't sure which side to take, given her upbringing. She was at the point where she was attempting to find the information she desires without endangering anyone (hopefully).

She joined the Pureblood Club which she knew to be populated with friends and children of Death Eaters (and she hoped a few actual Death Eaters). She had contemplate
d seeking out information on the White Dove Society (which she heard about from another Ravenclaw), but she felt there was more protection from the Death Eater's side. She didn't put much faith in the Doves, and would rather feel close to those in charge. She's now trying to prove her worth to stay in this group.

Sophie struggles a lot with her forever single status. It's a very sore spot for her. She greatly resents the fact that she's always looked at as the "cute, smart girl" and isn't really desired by anyone. She's so desperate for attention that she'd accept it from almost anyone. That would be one of her biggest flaws.

~ Post Time Jump ~
Sophie is in her final year at Hogwarts, a year she dreaded beyond anything else.
Reese was supposed to be gone. It had looked bleak, but he returned to live in Hogsmeade, she suspected, to be near her. She didn't need to voice this opinion; it was fairly obvious.

Things were looking up, especially now that they were together again. PC seemed to be dead, or that was what their sources were saying. There had been no ominous whispers or threats in the halls of Hogwarts. It seemed after the long battle with Voldemort, the world would really be at peace. Sophie, after several months of hearing nothing, even let go of her disguise after much apprehension.

Now, with nothing looking to go wrong, Sophie is greatly looking forward to graduation, a potential life with Reese (though she hasn't voiced that idea yet either), and a bright and promising future. What could possibly go wrong?
